He has performed deeds 10,000 times as bad – the existing assessment of deaths resulting from his reductions to international aid stands at 600,000 and growing, and presently research projected his petroleum strategies would kill another 1.3 million. But nothing as definitional. No other president would have dared – genuinely, no former commander would have imagined – unilaterally destroying major areas of the presidential residence to construct a palace-inspired entertainment space, with the active collaboration of some of the richest Americans, nearly all of which maintain dealings with federal agencies.

As confusing as it is to observe the president seek to颠覆 the established notion regarding democracy and substitute it with its complete opposite, there is one large group among Americans who wouldn't consider it totally unfamiliar. That encompasses people such as ourselves – within elder demographics close to half – who were brought up within mainstream Protestant traditions.
We have watched over the years as rightwing evangelical churches transformed the Christ we were raised with into the complete reverse of our perception of his character. Fundamentally, they turned a figure of love into an icon of hate who blesses specifically the brutality that he criticized in the Gospel; this transformation occurred more gradually, across decades instead of months, yet it remains disconcerting via comparable methods, a bewildering emotional blow for many of us.
A Toxic Christianity Gains Ground
Hence I shall explain the Christ from my childhood, as conceptually Christ is the focus of any Christian faith, and because the quickly increasing segment among Americans might have little sense about him since they are non-believers or doubters or religiously unaffiliated. The evident and direct fact that Christ in biblical accounts requests a kind of radical love focused on the poor has perpetually caused Christianity something of a scandalous religion: attractive to the general public, but due to its natural unconventionality needing to be restrained. During the 1950s it was controlled via weakening – The Protestant faith was so dominant that it basically sanctified existing conditions.
A Conflict for the Best Among Us
Therefore I have felt encouraged to see the determined opposition to Trump emerge in this past year. It has been great solace to help build the campaign that has protested openly in rally after rally, and likely has encouraged electorate to turn out in numbers in the off-year elections. We shall require to persist with it, and in the same spirit, displaying national flags throughout each rally and calls to the finest aspects within national heritage.

The country is optimally secured, in other words, through connection to the best in US heritage, just as Christianity is most protected by relationship to what makes it special and magnificent, particularly the pattern of the Savior. In neither case does it imply acting as if the most damaging about the nation and religious tradition did not happen; it means both modesty and faith, a combination that committed national faithful should be comfortable with.
